MoH to cut prices of 192 medicines from January 2014

WAM DUBAI, 13th November, 2013 (WAM)--The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced today it has cut the prices of 192 types of medicines by 1- 60 per cent with effect from 1st January, 2014.

The reduction will cover diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol and virus disease medicines.

This was unveiled in the fourth gathering for reduction of medicines and application of the pharmaceutical pricing system in the UAE held at Hyatt Grand hotel in Dubai. The event was organised by the Medical Practices and Licensing Sector at the MoH in cooperation with Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association Gulf as well as innovative medicine companies.

The gathering was attended by Dr. Salem Al Darmeki, Adviser to the Minister of Health, Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, Assistant Under Secretary of the MoH for the Medical Practices and Licensing and a number of pharmaceutical officials and representatives.

The move comes in line with the directives by the UAE leadership to upgrade the health services through provision of easy and accessible healthcare. Earlier the Cabinet instructed the competent authorities to unify the pharmaceutical pricing system.

Al Darmeki delivered a speech on behalf of Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health in which he welcomed the reduction of prices of medicines, stressing keenness of the MoH on provision of better healthcare to all individuals of the community.
