AHS joins global community in commemorating World Oral Health Day

WAM ABU DHABI, 20th March, 2014 (WAM) -- Ambulatory Healthcare Services, a SEHA health system facility, is joining governments, national dental associations, student bodies and private and public health clinics in more than 70 countries to mark World Oral Health Day under the international theme 'Celebrating Healthy Smiles'.

World Oral Health Day (WOHD), which is being celebrated today, aims to create global awareness on the importance of maintaining optimal dental and oral health throughout a person's lifetime.

As part of its WOHD activities, AHS has lined up oral health awareness campaigns in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to underline the importance of regular dental check-ups for the prevention of oral diseases and other health conditions that are likely to impact an individual's overall well-being.

Dr. Omar Al Jaberi, Chief Medical Officer at AHS commented, "Dedicated to improving the state of healthcare in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, AHS is proud to join other professional health associations and communities around the world to celebrate the World Oral Health Day. The 2014 tagline, "Celebrating Healthy Smiles", stresses the importance of oral health for maintaining healthy, confident and successful lives.

"Ninety per cent of the world's population suffers from oral disease in their lifetime ranging from tooth caries, periodontal diseases, tooth decay and oral cancer. AHS, in line with the World Dental Federation, wishes to underline the fact that a person's mouth is a veritable indicator of the state of his or her general wellness. Regular dental checkups will help people detect and take timely medical action to prevent the onset of grave illnesses that affect the entire body." WAM/AAMIR/Moran
