WAM JEDDAH, 21st April, 2014 (WAM) — The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, has congratulated the people of Algeria on the successful conduct of transparent and democratic Presidential election which was held on 17 April 2014.
The OIC in a statement said that its observers monitored the election process in Algiers and other Provinces and had noted with satisfaction that the electoral process was conducted in a free, fair, democratic and transparent manner, in conformity with the Algerian election rules and regulations as well as with the internationally accepted norms.
The OIC observer team commended the way the people of Algeria displayed with great sense of responsibility and, therefore, demonstrated their firm resolve to stand along the principles of democracy, rule of law, transparency and good governance as contained in the OIC Charter.
The OIC is fully confident that the success of the Presidential election of Algeria would further contribute to strengthen democracy and to build a more prosperous and developed Algeria.
It has to be mentioned that upon an invitation by the Government of the People`s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Mr. Madani, dispatched a team of observers composed of officials from the General Secretariat and experts from Kazakhstan, Malaysia and Turkey to monitor the Algerian Presidential election.
