Cabinet approves Jordan's joining IMSO

Amman, Aug 31 (Petra) — The Council of Ministers on Sunday gave the green light for Jordan to join the Convention on International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) that oversees certain public satellite safety and security communication services.

In a session chaired by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, the ministers noted IMSO’s importance in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, distress alerting and search and rescue co-ordination communications that help maritime protection and safety.

Jordan is among the parties benefiting from the international system for Long Range Identification and Tracking of Ships worldwide under an agreement reached by the Jordan Maritime Authority and service provider, Pole Star, in line with the procedures of the International Maritime Organisation.
