Jordan calls on UN to halt Israeli provocations in Jerusalem

New York, Oct.30 (Petra) — Jordan has called for Israel to cease its deadly provocations, especially at Al-Haram Al-Sharif, home of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

During an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Jordan Permanent Representative to the UN Mahmoud Hmoud said that the world must turn its attention to the illegal Israeli policies that are threatening Jerusalem.

Hmoud said the Kingdom would continue to do its best to defend Jerusalem and its holy sites and to ensure that these were not desecrated, as was its duty.

Jordan’s envoy condemned all settlement activities in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, urging the UN body to shoulder its responsibility to end Israel’s illegal practices and its occupation of Palestinian land.

Jordan’s official stressed that the two-state solution must be brought into effect immediately through serious negotiations, with a timetable for the implementation and a resolution to end practices that hamper the peace process.

Jordan on Monday requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the recent tension in East Jerusalem resulting from Israel’s plans to build more illegal settlements.
