14 die in Tanzanian quarry cave-in

ARUSHA, Tanzania, April 2 (UPI) --
At least 14 people were killed in the northern Tanzanian city of Arusha when a quarry caved in following heavy rains, officials said Tuesday.

The victims were illegally digging for rocks and sand Monday to use for building materials, the BBC reported.

Officials said about two down people and two trucks were in the area where the collapse occurred. Heavy rains caused the side of a open mine to give way.

Two people pulled out of the quarry by rescue workers were taken to a local hospital. One of the survivors was believed to be seriously injured, the BBC reported.
