Man with amnesia has a sister in Louisiana, newspaper says UPI 7/17/2013 6:22:38 PM PALM SPRINGS, Calif., July 17 (UPI) -- The mystery man who awoke in a California hotel with no memory of his past has a sister, who said she has not seen him in 10 years. The Palm Springs, Calif., Desert Sun reported Michael Boatwright, 61, was found unconscious four months ago. When he regained consciousness in a local hospital he was unaware of his own background, spoke only Swedish and referred to himself as Johan Ek. The newspaper reported it found his sister Michelle Brewer, in Louisiana, who said the family had no idea where Boatwright was, and had no way to contact him. "He was always just a wanderer. Then he'd come back when he needed some money or something from somebody. Then he'd take off again," she said. In March doctors diagnosed Boatwright with Transient Global Amnesia, a condition that can last months and is triggered by trauma, NBC News reported. Authorities and friends pieced Boatwight's history together, saying he was raised in Florida, visited Sweden and has two ex-wives he does not remember. He also lacks money and health insurance, NBC News said. "Sometimes it makes me really sad and sometimes it just makes me furious about the whole situation, and the fact I don't know anybody, I don't recognize anybody," Boatwright told the newspaper.
