Woman crushed by homemade elevator in friend's Florida home Share This: UPI 7/25/2013 6:33:56 PM WEEKI WACHEE, Fla., July 25 (UPI) -- A woman visiting a wheelchair-bound friend was found crushed to death under a homemade elevator in a Weeki Wachee, Fla., home, police said. The elevator was built about 17 years ago from a forklift, wood and metal for homeowner Jean Blair, who uses a motorized wheelchair in her three-story home. Blair sent the unoccupied elevator down, and it accidentally crushed visiting friend Margaret Harrison, WTSP-TV, St. Petersburg, reported Thursday. Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene, and Hernando County building inspectors later said a permit for adding the elevator to the home was never issued. Citing its dangerous electrical connections, the elevator was declared unsafe and shut down. Harrison's death was deemed accidental, WTSP-TV said.
