Demi Lovato shared her theory on aliens, mermaids on 'Late Night'

NEW YORK, June 5 (UPI) —

Demi Lovato opened up about why she thinks mermaids are real while discussing extraterrestrial life on Late Night with Seth Meyers Tuesday.

"I know that they’re real," Lovato said when asked if she believed in aliens. "How self-centered would we be as humans to believe that we are the only living things in the universe?"

The "Heart Attack" singer, who was rocking her newly dyed purple and silver hair during the show, went on to say that she was all for conspiracy theories and expanded on her thoughts about mermaids.

"You know Atlantis," she began. "So, I believe that there could possibly be mermaids which is an alien species that lives in parts of the Indian ocean, which we have never explored before as human beings, and Christopher Columbus had actually seen three mermaids on his way to America."

"I just think it’s possible, and there’s this, like, really extremely convincing documentary that came out," she continued before Meyers chimed in with "The Little Mermaid?"

"No!" Lovato responded pretending to be upset. "It was on, like, National Geographic — no, the Discovery Channel. And then the next day they had to say it was fake."
