Twitter to open office in Jakarta

JAKARTA, Aug. 29 (UPI) —

Twitter said Thursday it plans to open an office in the capital of Indonesia in the next three to six months, making it the second office in Southeast Asia.

Twitter’s Global President of Revenue and Partnerships Adam Bain said the Jakarta office will be comprised of sales and development teams.

"You look at Indonesia and you see the size of the audience there and how they’re using Twitter, and it’s super-invigorating," Bain told the Wall Street Journal. "Overall it will be a pretty cross-functional office for us in terms of the roles of the people inside the office and the different specialties that the team has."

Twitter is looking to expand its advertising and usership in the potentially large Indonesian market. Half of the country’s 240 million people are under the age of 30. Indonesia’s presidential election has cultivated 95 million tweets since the beginning of the year.

Facebook opened an office in Jakarta in March and has approximately 69 million users in the country.

Twitter also has office in Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo and Sydney.
