Cargo plane crashes near Tamanrasset, Algeria; seven dead

TAMANRASSET, Algeria, Aug. 30 (UPI) —

A Ukrainian cargo plane crashed Saturday morning shortly after takeoff from a southern Algerian airport killing all seven on board.

The Russian-built Antonov An-12 plane crashed about three minutes after it took off from Tamanrasset airport, Algerian state-run news agency Algerie Presse Service reported, as quoted by CNN.

The wreckage was found about 9.3 miles south of the airport. There were no survivors, the Algerian transportation ministry said.

The plane was carrying oil equipment from Glasgow, Scotland, to Equatorial Guinea. It had a layover in Tamanrasset.

The cause of the crash was being investigated.
