Terminal at Chicago's O'Hare evacuated because of suspicious bag

CHICAGO, Sept. 24 (UPI) —

Terminal 1 at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago was evacuated for almost two hours Wednesday morning after a suspicious bag was found.

The unattended luggage spotted around 9:30 a.m. turned out to hold no explosives or other dangerous items, police said. The terminal reopened at about 11:15 a.m.

Planes continued to take off and land during the shutdown, officials said. But there were partial closings of two roadways.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the incident showed Chicago is prepared for emergencies and is dealing with the threat of terrorism.

"Thank God what happened at O’Hare here wasn’t anything but actually what that did show is given what happened we had the plan in place," he said.
