ISLAMABAD, Oct. 30 (UPI) —
An alleged U.S. drone strike in northwestern Pakistan on Thursday reportedly killed at least seven militants, including a Haqqani commander.
The airstrike targeted a militant compound in South Waziristan’s Birmal area, in the village of Nargas. The dead included four foreigners, an unnamed Pakistani official was quoted as saying.
Haqqani commander Abdullah Haqqani, whom the official said "was responsible for sending suicide bombers to Afghanistan," was allegedly killed in the attack.
Pakistan has denounced U.S. drone strikes as a violation of its sovereignty.
The Pakistani military launched its own summer-long military operation targeting the Taliban in North Waziristan. Last month, the military announced that 910 suspected militants were killed in the joint ground offensive and airstrike operation.
