MATAMOROS, Tamaulipas — Kidnapping and extortion continue to hold hostage the population of the border city of Matamoros regardless of their social strata. Most recently cartel members have once again resorted to hijacking commercial buses inside the city limits and have also begun making telephone threats and extortions at the brave few citizens that have provided authorities information about the location of illegal gasoline sales.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the issuance of a $1.2 million grant to the City of North Richland Hills to establish an anti-gang center. The North Texas Anti-Gang Center will be tasked with combatting organized gang activities in an eleven-county region.
