While Florida’s U.S. Senate Democratic primary candidates, Rep. Alan Grayson and Rep. Patrick Murphy, seem to be garnering all of the media spotlight in what will eventually turn out to be a hotly contested general election, Republicans vying to replace outgoing Sen. Marco Rubio appear to be a forgotten bunch.

Charlie Crist is back, and this time, it looks as if he is here to stay. Crist announced that he is running for Congress in Florida’s soon-to-be-Democratic-leaning 13th congressional district.

Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) have introduced legislation to make the to make the murder of a law enforcement officer, firefighter, or other first responder an aggravating factor in favor of the death penalty. Current law already applies this penalty when the murder victim is a federal law enforcement officer or prosecutor. The legislation comes in the wake of a number high profile murders of police officers, including Pennsylvania State Trooper Corporal Bryon Dickson and Philadelphia Officer Robert Wilson, III.

Former Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum is mulling over another state run for the U.S. Senate, but he says he will not make up his mind until after October but before the end of 2015.

The U.S. Senate race in Florida to replace outgoing Sen. Marco Rubio has turned out to be nothing like the one in 2010 that saw Rubio defeat then-Governor Charlie Crist.

The five recently released undercover videos by the Center for Medical Progress, outing Planned Parenthood as an organization that inhumanely brokers aborted baby body parts, have forced the hand of Republican legislators in Washington, D.C., to push for the federal defunding of the group.

With Florida’s August 2016 primary still more than a year away, it would be highly unlikely for any candidate to have the race sewn up already, but this poll does settle some questions about how the race would be affected if some of the potential candidates jumped in: former Attorney General Bill McCollum (R-FL) and Rep. Gwen Graham (D-FL).

A second matchup between Democrat Rep. Gwen Graham and former Congressman Steve Southerland (R) could be in the works, as Southerland is strongly considering another run for office in Florida’s 2nd congressional district.

That would be Charlie Crist, the former Florida Governor who used to be a Republican, then bailed on the party to run as an independent after Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) surged to a double-digit lead in the 2010 Senate primary. Crist’s name has become a shorthand insult whenever someone wishes to challenge a candidate’s conservative credentials, and when Rep. David Jolly (R-FL) jumped into the Florida Senate race on Monday, the Club for Growth had thrown the Crist name at him within a few hours.
