Beijing on Friday called for a “crackdown” on the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), a group China claims is a Uyghur terror organization active in eastern Afghanistan, following a deadly terrorist attack at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport on Thursday.
The U.N. Security Council (UNSC) released a report Thursday claiming Uyghur terrorists from the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) are attempting to carve out an Uyghur state in Afghanistan.
China human rights magazine Bitter Winter on Monday accused Pakistan of playing along with “Chinese propaganda” by making a splashy public vow to crack down on the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), an alleged Uyghur terrorist group that evidence suggests does not exist.
The South China Morning Post reported on Tuesday that China is constructing a military base in a remote region of Afghanistan close to Xinjiang, the troubled province where much of China’s Muslim population lives. Both Chinese and Afghan officials quickly denied the report and said China is merely helping to train Afghan counter-terrorist forces.
