On the floor of the U.S. Senate on Sunday evening, something remarkable—a little bit insider-y in Washington, but remarkable nonetheless—happened: The Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, his entire leadership team, and most of the Republicans in the U.S. Senate voice voted through measures to fund Planned Parenthood in its entirety and to help protect President Barack Obama’s nuclear arms deal with Iran.

Sen. Mike Lee’s attempt to force a vote in the Senate that would defund Planned Parenthood was blocked Sunday by some of his Republican colleagues.
Paul tried to get the floor to stand up and offer an amendment to defund Planned Parenthood and another one to arm servicemen and women on military bases. He intended to offer these measures as amendments to the highway bill that is currently on the Senate floor. Whoever was presiding over the floor refused to recognize Paul to offer his amendments.
“At the end of the day, it is about power and money in Washington and the people getting left behind are working men and women,” Cruz said. “Now I will say one thing that’s very encouraging, which is even though the Washington Cartel is coming after me hard—the lobbyists are backing other candidates in this presidential race—out of 16 candidates for the Republican nomination, do you know which candidate raised the most money out of all 16?”
Cruz’s speech stemmed from how McConnell—despite telling the entire GOP conference there was no such secret deal with the Democrats during the Obamatrade process to later bring up Ex-Im reauthorization—actually did cut a deal with Democrats, specifically Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA).
Cruz had specific messages to every rank-and-file Republican, every rank-and-file Democrat and the two top GOP leaders on Capitol Hill, McConnell and Boehner, that he wants to make clear ahead of any Ex-Im effort. “To every Republican: Are you going to join with Barack Obama in perpetuating the cronyism and corporate welfare of the Export-Import Bank, or are you going to stand up and honor the promises you made to the men and women who elected you?” Cruz said.
The Export-Import Bank (often referred to as simply the “Ex-Im Bank”) is one of the most corrupt entities in Washington, DC.
