Texas Open Carry & Campus Carry Bills Pass Committee

After a long day of debate and passionate public testimony from both sides, the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee has voted to recommend that the Texas Senate pass both SB 11, the “campus carry” bill, and SB 17, the “open carry” bill. Both bills now head to the full Texas Senate for consideration. The vote came just before 6:00 pm Central Time on Thursday.

Anti-Campus Carry Email Sent to Entire UT Austin Faculty

An email message was sent to the entire faculty of the University of Texas at Austin on a university listserv Tuesday morning encouraging them to oppose a “campus carry” bill being considered by the Texas Senate, SB 11, which would allow those with permits to carry concealed handguns to also carry their guns on college campuses.

Washington Sheriff: Smart Guns Still Too Dumb To Be Trusted

On January 28, the Washington Technology Industry Association held a “smart gun” symposium attended by a pro-gun control state senator from New Jersey and various smart gun makers, only to have the show stolen by King County Sheriff John Urquhart, who told everyone in attendance that smart guns are not smart enough to be trusted.
