Roughly 40 LGBTQ Texans Running for Office in 2018, Says Community Mag

Houston Magazine OutSmart reports that at least 35 LGBTQ Texans are running for office in the 2018 primary and general elections–including governor and lieutenant governor contests. Five candidates identify as transgender. More than one-third are from Harris County. The publication added five to the list by Wednesday afternoon.

Family Reports Six Likely Drowned as Van Swept Away in Houston Flood

HOUSTON, Texas — The death toll from Hurricane Harvey and the resulting floods may have climbed to 14 as a family reports six of their members may have drowned. The clan claims two great-grandparents, in their 80s, along with four children were swept away by flood waters on Houston’s northeast side and are feared dead. Texas officials report eight other people died in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

HOUSTON, Texas– A registered sex offender has been charged with Invasive Visual Recording and Attempted Promotion of Child Pornography after allegedly taking a video of a 10-year-old girl while she was in a bathroom stall at a Texas restaurant. The defendant has a long history of sex offenses, including taking photos in a girls restroom dating back to high school.

Texas Judge Orders CPS to Read Constitution After Misleading Court

A Texas father fought back after Child Protective Services unlawfully removed his daughter and filed legal pleadings that were not supported by the evidence. The agency also went to court without giving the father notice of the removal hearing. A judge has ordered the agency to pay the father’s legal expenses and ordered CPS personnel to read the Constitution.

CPS Twice Investigated Texas Mom Who Drowned Her Children, Hid Bodies

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston mother who drowned her two children and then hid the bodies under a neighbor’s house appeared in court on Wednesday. Her attorney says she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and severe depression in 2012. In April 2014, Child Protective Services (CPS) asked a judge to release the children to the mother and the court signed off on the order.

Jorge Ramos told a crowd of nearly 1,000 illegal aliens, DREAMERs and their supporters “I think you the DREAMers are the Rosa Parks of this time.” The crowd was gathered to show support for President Obama’s executive amnesty programs — Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA). HOUSTON, Texas — Video has been released showing the ambush of the Houston-area constable who was shot on Wednesday as he was kneeling by a deputy trainee’s patrol car. The ambush occurred after a routine traffic stop in Houston’s Third Ward, a neighborhood known for violent crime. A person of interest has been questioned.
