Chad Begins Airstrikes, Arrests of Homeless in Fight against Boko Haram

The government of Chad has intensified its efforts against the jihadist terrorist group Boko Haram following a bomb attack on the nation’s capital, N’Djamena. After banning the Islamic burqa veil, Chad announced a new series of air strikes against the terror group along the borders with Nigeria and Niger, and has begun efforts to detain “beggars” and foreigners to increase safety in the capital.

President of Chad: ‘Regrettable’ Cooperation with Nigeria Hurting Boko Haram Fight

The President of Chad, Idriss Deby, visited the Nigerian capital Abuja today to meet with both outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan and President-elect Muhammadu Buhari on how to best jointly combat the looming threat of Boko Haram. Speaking to reporters, Deby lamented that cooperation with Nigeria could use improvement, and that such coordination has been a problem in the past.

Chad President: We Know Location of Boko Haram Leader

President Idriss Deby of Chad told reporters during a joint press conference with Niger’s head of state that his military knows the whereabouts of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, and that it was in the “best interests” of the terrorist leader to surrender.
