China Passes Burqa Ban in its Largest Muslim City

The Chinese regional government of Xinjiang, the nation’s westernmost province, has approved a ban on burqas in its capital, Urumqi. The capital is the nation’s most Muslim-populated city; the law would prevent women from wearing the garment in public.

PEGIDA Rally in Germany Swells to Record Numbers

The anti-radical Islam group Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West (PEGIDA) stages a protest every Monday in its native Dresden, Germany. On January 12, however, the group convened its largest rally yet, with 25,000 participants–significantly more due to last week’s terrorist attack in Paris, France. Poll: Even Before Charlie Hebdo Attacks, 57% of Germans Viewed Islam as Threat

Concern among Germans regarding the destructive potential of Islam within a free society has been growing in the past several years; even before last weeks gruesome attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, a plurality of Germans believed that Islam was “threatening” or “very threatening” to German society, according to one poll.

The world’s reaction to the shootings of 12 people at the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris – and the world’s lack of reaction to the shooting of four people at a kosher supermarket the next day – have filled the news for days. French President Told Israeli PM Netanyahu Not To Attend Paris Rally

French President Francois Hollande told his counterpart, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, not to attend the Paris rally in the wake of the jihadist attacks against Charlie Hebdo and the Jewish market last week, for fear that the Israeli PM’s presence might upset those troubled with his stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Saudi Fatwa: No Snowmen!

A Saudi religious authority, Mohamed Saleh Al Minjed, issued a fatwa (religious edict) that making snowmen or snow animals is not compliant with the teachings of Islam. Supporters of the fatwa said that even if the snow creations are created out of good fun, they must be rejected, because it is what people in corrupted Western cultures do. Al Minjed said only figures without a “soul,” such as structures, food, or vehicles, can be recreated with snow.

Boko Haram Threatens Cameroon in New Video

A man identifying himself as Abubakar Shekau, the man believed to lead the jihadist terror group Boko Haram, appears in a new video threatening to expand the group’s terrorist activities deeper into Cameroon, Nigeria’s neighbor. The video is filmed from afar at different angles, which does not allow experts to accurately identify the man.

Holder Refuses to Say US at War with Radical Islam

Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,”  host Chuck Todd noted French Prime Minister François Hollande had declared France is at war with radical Islam and asked Attorney General Eric Holder, “Would you say the United States is at war with radical Islam?”
