Ferguson ‘Black Lives Matter’ Protest Blocks Fresno

On Monday, roughly 50 protesters, some of them smiling broadly as they stood in the middle of the street blocking traffic in downtown Fresno, shouted “Fresno is Ferguson!” and “Black lives matter!” to mark the one-year anniversary of the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

Protesters Against ‘The Donald’ Trumped by Supporters at Border

2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump’s arrival in Laredo, Texas was met with a mix of a modest number of protesters as well as supporters, but the protesters did not last throughout the days events. A healthy contingent of supporters; however, greeted the Donald in a meeting of law enforcement officials which cheered Trump while supporters outside also cheered him on.

Egyptian Court Acquits 17 for Violating Strict Protest Laws

Protesting is a dicey business in Egypt, which has been through three governing regimes in four years. The current regime passed a strict law to control street protests in 2013, but last January it was violated by a demonstration that was eventually dispersed by police, resulting in the death of protester Shaimaa Sabbagh.

Radicals Take Over Oakland City Council Meeting

On Tuesday, a meeting of the Oakland City Council was disrupted–and taken over–by radical demonstrators. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that after the mayor’s 5 p.m. budget presentation began, protesters led by the groups Black.Seed, and Asians4BlackLives crowded into the building, shouting their anger over a proposal to sell public land adjacent to Lake Merritt so housing developer UrbanCore can build an apartment tower.

Catholic Donors Attack S.F. Archbishop Cordileone

On Thursday, proving that the attractions of an increasingly secular society seem more important than the tenets of traditional religion, over 100 prominent Roman Catholic donors and church members wrote an open letter to the Pope that ran as a full-page ad in the San Francisco Chronicle condemning staunch traditionalist San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone for fostering “an atmosphere of division and intolerance,” and calling on Pope Francis to replace him.

More Violence Erupts in St. Louis

After an armed black man, Antonio Martin, was killed Tuesday night by St. Louis police in Berkeley, a suburb of St. Louis, violence erupted. More than 100 people at the gas station where Martin was shot violently clashed with police.
