Iran will avenge the killing of a senior Revolutionary Guards officer in Tehran, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi warned on Monday.

Iranian state media reported “mourners” filling the streets of Tehran after Friday prayers and chanting “Death to America!” in response to the death of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force (IRGC-QF) commander Qasem Soleimani’s death in a U.S. drone strike in Iraq.

Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq (AAH) — a faction of the Baghdad-sanctioned Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) that answered to the late Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani killed by American forces in Iraq on Thursday — reportedly claimed to be behind 6,000 attacks against U.S. and Coalition forces between 2006 and 2011.

The U.S. military, at the direction of President Donald Trump, killed Iran’s most significant military figure, Qasem Soleimani, in airstrikes in Baghdad early Friday morning in a huge blow to the Islamic Republic.

A report published by Reuters on Friday revealed that Iran is moving ballistic missiles into Iraq, placing the weapons in the hands of its Shiite militia proxies, in order to expand its ability to hit targets across the Middle East in a regional conflict or war against Western powers.
