Election Day for Republicans, nationally, was a very good night. Not only did the GOP win the presidency with the election of Donald J. Trump, but it also retained control of the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives, and won gains at the state level across the country.

California Democrats Disagree: How Much Surplus to Waste?

California is enjoying another year of budget surplus–and the state’s Democrats cannot wait to spend the spoils. Though Gov. Jerry Brown’s new plans call for spending an additional $7.5 billion more than originally budgeted–an increase that is larger than the entire budgets of some states–Democrats in the state legislature are predicting a $2.5 billion surplus in the year to come, and bickering over which of the state’s generous social welfare programs will benefit from the new cash.

20 Bills on Police Now at State Legislature

Now that the Obama administration has subtly encouraged critics of police to vent their fury, California legislators have initiated a flurry of at least 20 proposals–according to a count by the Los Angeles Times–to shackle the police and ensure that they are being zealously scrutinized.

In recent years, Republicans and conservatives have won public sector reforms in Wisconsin, broad tax reform in a number of states, and have led three states—Indiana, Oklahoma, and South Carolina—out of the Common Core education regime.
