HOUSTON, Texas – A grieving Texas father told Breitbart Texas, “my son is dead because the concept of borders is dead.” Spencer Golvach was senselessly murdered by an illegal alien who had been deported a number of times after being convicted of committing crimes, including as law enforcement officers now tell us, crimes of violence. Golvach was shot in the head on January 31st while sitting in his car waiting for a stoplight to change. Golvach’s father said he wants the “boomerang” of deportation and illegal reentry into the country to be stopped.

The criminal trial for a Texas Child Protective Services (CPS) worker is set to start this week. The CPS worker has been charged with official oppression for subjecting a person under CPS investigation “to search and seizure that the defendant knew as unlawful.” Criminal charges against CPS employees related to their actions in child protective services cases are rare.

A federal judge appointed by President Obama has blocked detainment of Central American women and children on the U.S.-Mexico border who allege they are seeking asylum. The judge enjoined the government “from detaining class members for the purpose of deterring future immigration to the United States and from considering deterrence of such immigration as a factor in such custody determinations.”

Defense attorneys presented testimony from a mental health expert on Thursday regarding the mental state of Eddie Ray Routh, who is accused of killing “American Sniper” Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield. Routh has admitted to killing the two men but has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

On Thursday, February 19, the Texas Supreme Court granted an emergency motion requested by Attorney General Ken Paxton to stay two Travis County court ruling declaring the state’s law banning gay marriage unconstitutional. This action followed a Travis County clerk issuing the first “legal” gay marriage license, although Texas voters banned same-sex marriage a decade ago.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott is being praised by a grassroots conservative organization for comments he made about border security during a press conference at the Capitol on Wednesday. As Breitbart Texas reported, Abbott was joined by Senator Ted Cruz, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, and Attorney General Ken Paxton to address the recent temporary injunction imposed by a federal judge in Texas on President Barack Obama’s executive order that would have granted amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants.

The court not only rejected the TEC’s attempt to transfer the case back to Travis County, but then later ruled that the entire case was to be thrown out.

Special elections were held on Tuesday for four seats in the Texas Legislature: Senate District 26, where Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer (D-San Antonio) faces Rep. Jose Menendez (D-San Antonio); House District 13, where Carolyn Bilski (R) faces Leighton Schubert (R); House District 17, where John Cyrier (R) faces Brent Golemon (R), and House District 123, where Diego Bernal (D) faces Nunzio Previtera (R).

A Texas man was sentenced to 45 years in prison on Monday for strangling his wife to death during an argument last May. Epifanio Guzman, 43, of Lubbock, claimed he had not realized that he had killed her until he woke up the next morning and saw her dead body, as reported by the Daily Mail.
