Tinder announced it is testing a new feature that will allow users to match with groups of people rather than one at a time. However, the feature has already faced criticism that it will “embarrass people” and “facilitate group sex,” according to The Independent.
The new feature will allow users to see which of their friends are using the dating app, as well as as their personal profiles, in order to invite them along to the potential meet ups.
Users will also be required to opt out of the feature, meaning they could be located on the app by friends without their knowledge.
Whilst the company insists that Tinder’s primary purpose is to make new friends, it has also been criticized for promoting “hook up culture,” and with the new feature, the potential for group sex. Last year, the company responded angrily via Twitter to claims that it was causing a “dating apocalypse.”

In a blog post called “Introducing Tinder Social,” the company said the new feature it would be a way of “taking a night out to the next level.”
Tinder said that “it is a new product that we’re testing with a small group of users in Australia. It’s not group dating, it’s a fun new way to meet new people out with your friends. While this is just a test for now, we look forward to launching it globally soon.”
