Mark Zuckerberg Still Denies Suppressing Content After Hosting Conservatives at Facebook

Mark Zuckerberg has released a statement following his widely-publicized meeting with conservative figures at the company’s headquarters earlier today.

The Facebook CEO acknowledged the predominance of conservatives on his platform, noting that Donald Trump has “more fans on Facebook than any other presidential candidate” and that Fox News “drives more interactions on its Facebook page than any other news outlet in the world.”

While Zuckerberg acknowledged that “many conservatives” do not trust the platform’s promise to remain politically unbiased, he continued to deny allegations that any suppression of conservative content occurred.

“Our community’s success depends on everyone feeling comfortable sharing anything they want,” wrote Zuckerberg. “It doesn’t make sense for our mission or our business to suppress political content or prevent anyone from seeing what matters most to them.”

This is in stark contrast to the comments Zuckerberg made to German Chancellor Angela Merkel earlier this year, in which he promised to tackle so-called “hate speech” against migrants on Facebook. The social network has since openly colluded with the German government to delete criticism of mass immigration on the platform.

According to critics, this is not limited to Germany. Groups opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants in the U.S also accuse Facebook of tampering with their content.

Nevertheless, some attendees of the meeting seem convinced that this time, Zuckerberg is acting in good faith.

Media Research Center President Brent Bozell issued a statement:

I think this was a very productive first meeting. I think Facebook understands there is a problem. And I think that from the very top there is a genuine desire to resolve it. There were good exchanges and overall it was cordial. We’ll see how the investigation turns out. There has been a serious issue of trust within the conservative movement about this issue, but everyone in that room, on both sides, wants to see it restored.
