A 27-year-old Google employee was found naked and dead with burns on her head, hands, and feet, after going missing during a jog on Sunday.
New York resident Vanessa Marcotte had gone out for a jog while visiting her mother in Princeton, Massachusetts for the weekend, but went missing shortly after. Her body was found by police at around 8pm that evening on the same street as her mother’s house, but without any clothes and a series of bizarre burns on different parts of her body.
“Vanessa Marcotte was a much loved member of the Google team, working in our New York office for the last year and a half, and known for her ubiquitous smile, passion for volunteer work, and love of Boston sport,s” said a Google spokesperson in a statement. “We are deeply shocked and saddened, and our thoughts are with her family and friends.”
Marcotte’s previous employer, WordStream, and her alma mater, Boston University, also expressed their sadness and sympathy for Marcotte and her family.
“I never envisioned this outcome… She was just a delightful person,” said WordStream founder, Larry Kim.
“We’re so terribly sad for her family and friends,” declared Boston University spokesperson Colin Riley. “They’re in our thoughts and prayers.”
Law enforcement are currently investigating the death as a homicide, with an autopsy currently in progress.
