TEL AVIV – Israeli warplanes struck targets belonging to the Iran-backed Hezbollah Shiite militia along the Syria-Lebanon border on Wednesday, reported the Times of Israel, citing Arab media sources quoted in Hebrew news sites.

The report comes hours after Turkey on Wednesday launched a major military incursion across the border into neighboring Syria. The Turkish anti-Islamic State campaign, the country’s largest direct involvement yet into the Syrian conflict, was backed up by U.S. drones and American military advisers.

Regarding the alleged Israeli strikes, said to have taken place in the Qalamoun Mountains, the Times of Israel further reported:

The reports gave few details, saying only that the targets had been hit from the sky three times.

The Israel Defense Forces said Wednesday night it “will not comment” on the reports of a strike in Syria.

A Twitter account linked to Hezbollah denied that there had been any attack on its headquarters in Qalamoun.
