Colin Kaepernick: ‘Let’s Make America Great Again for the First Time’

Colin Kaepernick counters Donald Trump’s campaign slogan by contending that America was never “great” in the first place.

“He always says, ‘Make America great again,'” Kaepernick notes of Donald Trump. “Well, America has never been great for people of color and that’s something that needs to be addressed. Let’s make America great for the first time.”

The San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback has taken a knee for all three regular-season games. He began his protest during the preseason by sitting during “The Star Spangled Banner” against Green Bay and San Diego. Kaepernick sparked additional controversy by donning a Fidel Castro t-shirt, wearing socks with police depicted as pigs, and claiming that cosmetologists receive better training than cops.

The stunts resulted in one poll revealing Kaepernick as the most disliked player in the NFL and a Yahoo survey indicating that 44 percent of fans may switch off the NFL should the national anthem protests continue.

Kaepernick currently backs up Blaine Gabbert on the 1-2 49ers. Coach Chip Kelly says Kaepernick needs to put on weight to get back on the field. He became a vegan a year ago, and a solid frame once featured in ESPN: The Magazine‘s “body” issue now looks like a coverboy candidate for Starvation Weekly. The quarterback currently graces the cover of Time.

The Republican nominee suggested that Kaepernick go abroad to find a better country in a what-do-they-know-of-America-who-only-America-knows statement earlier this month. Although Trump wins praise from Tom Brady, Herschel Walker, Terrell Owens, and other players past and present, the former USFL owner should not expect the endorsement from the current NFL backup anytime soon.

“To me, it was embarrassing to watch,” Kaepernick told reporters about Monday’s debate. “Both are proven liars and it almost seems like they’re trying to debate who’s less racist.”

The despised quarterback reserves special contempt for Trump, whom he calls “openly racist” and “ignorant.”
