NFL Wife: Colts Cut Antonio Cromartie Because of Anthem Protest

The wife of cornerback Antonio Cromartie offers a theory on why the Colts cut her husband.

She says Indianapolis released him because he took a knee during the national anthem.

“You are Nothing More than an Entertainer,” she posted on Instagram. “Just Shut and do what we say. You have No rights as along as you are working for me.. there are other places for you to fight and stand for what you believe… Smh Maybe I read something different.. one things for sure I know my husband was told Not to take a Knee and he went with his heart and he took one. And that cost him his Job.. and Clearly this Statement backs that up… Just a Paid To put on a show.. SMH”’

Colts owner Jim Irsay gave his opinion earlier this week about the Kaepernick-inspired anthem protests: “It hasn’t been a positive thing,” Irsay told the Indianapolis Star. “What we all have to be aware of as players, owners, PR people, equipment managers, is when the lights go on we are entertainment. We are being paid to put on a show. There are other places to express yourself.”

Cromartie kneeled for the anthem twice this season, including in London, where he stood for “God Save the Queen.”

For those wondering, Antonio Cromartie has either been cut or mutually agreed to part ways with NFL teams long before Colin Kaepernick’s protests became a thing—five times in fact. The Colts were Cromartie’s fourth different team and third in the last three years.

You’d also have to go back to 2014 to find the last time Cromartie either made a Pro Bowl, or intercepted a pass. In other words, though seductive to believe that an NFL football team would make the statement of cutting one of their pampered athletes for disrespecting the flag, and all those who fought and died for the freedoms and liberties in which they indulge, it’s probably not true.
