Greg Abbott Takes Commanding Lead in Post-Primary Poll

TEXAS–New Rasmussen polling released Thursday indicates voters favor General Abbott over State Senator Davis by a margin of 53 to 41 percent. The poll queried 500 likely voters on and around the March 4th primary election.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, fresh off his solid victory in the 2014 Republican Primary, takes a commanding lead in the race for Texas Governor over State Senator Wendy Davis who, this week suffered an embarrassing defeat in seven of fourteen heavily Hispanic border counties.

Favorability polls reflect even stronger underlying support for Abbott among voters who indicate a favorable approval of Tea Party groups.  Abbott scored a 91 percent favorability rating while Davis earned a 74 percent unfavorable rating from voters who view the Tea Party favorably.

The poll indicated that Texans expressed stronger support for Tea Party groups than did voters in other states.  39 percent of likely voters said they view the Tea Party favorably, compared to 31 percent nationally.

The poll has a margin error of 4.5 percent.
