Polygamist Cult Leader Hospitalized in Galveston for Unknown Reasons

HOUSTON, TEXAS–The world’s most infamous polygamists has been temporarily hospitalized in Galveston while serving a life sentence in a Texas prison according to state disclosures.

According to reports from the Texas Department of Justice, 58-year-old Warren Jeffs has been moved from a state prison in Palestine, Texas where he is currently serving a life sentence for sexually assaulting two underage girls to seek medical care.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Robert Hurst said Jeff’s health problems were not life threatening, but declined to go into detail because medical records for inmates are confidential, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

Jeffs, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was sentenced three years ago with a life sentence plus an additional twenty years according to previous AP reports. The charges of sexual assault were issued shortly after his compound, Yearning for Zion Ranch, was raided by federal agents in 2008 in Eldorado, Texas near San Angelo.

The State has moved to seize his 1,700 acre ranch located in west Texas. At one time, about 700 church members lived on the compound according to wire reports.

In related news, Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps is also reportedly in critical condition, according to the Associated Press.
