Texas Tea Party Victimized by International Robocall Scam

After receiving dozens of complaints from out of state and international individuals, NE Tarrant Tea Party President Julie McCarty filed complaints with a number of Texas and federal agencies over concerns that the organization’s brand was being misused in unsanctioned robocalls. The grassroots group does not currently have any solid leads on the originator of the calls, according to an interview with Breitbart Texas.

McCarty told Breitbart Texas that she immediately moved to notify area Texas congressmen, the Texas Attorney General, Texas Ethics Commission, Federal Elections Commission and the Federal Communications Commission with the hope that one of the entities would be immediately responsible for investigating the issue.

In a statement posted to the NE Tarrant website McCarty made clear, “please be aware that NETTP has not made any calls,” and would never do so to anyone outside of Tarrant County, Texas.

McCarty told Breitbart Texas that the organization–which is organized as 501(c)(4)-application pending–has not performed robocalls before. Further, she reminded concerned individuals that the recording incorrectly states how the organization refers to itself. The recording tells listeners to visit “North East Tarrant Tea Party dot com,” McCarty added. “We abbreviate NE.”

NE Tarrant leaders have reported varying phone numbers and area codes captured on caller ID logs. McCarty told Breitbart Texas that attempts to perform reverse look-up searches on the varying phone numbers reported have proven largely inconclusive.

According to the organization’s statement, NE Tarrant Tea Party profusely apologized for any confusion or disturbances suffered–particularly those receiving nearly a dozen calls a day, according to complaints offered. The organization encourages individuals receiving such calls to report dates, contents of message, phone numbers and recipient’s location directly to its leadership.
