Police Shoot 93-Year-Old Texas Woman

Police in Hearne, Texas shot a 93-year-old woman, yesterday (May 6th) after responding to a call about a female with a gun. The woman, identified by KBTX-TV as Pearlie Golden was allegedly carrying a firearm and was ultimately shot by Hearne Police Officer Stephen Stem.

According to a KAGS-TV report, the Robertson County District Attorney, Coty Siegert said in a statement, “Hearne Police Officers responded to a call Tuesday evening regarding a lady brandishing a firearm. Upon reaching the scene, Officer Stephen Stem located Miss Pearlie Golden, a 93 year old Hearne Resident, and confirmed that she did have a firearm. Officer Stem engaged the elderly female asking her to put down the weapon and then ultimately firing his own sidearm wounding Miss Golden who later died at St Joseph’s Hospital.”

The case is being investigated by the Hearne Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers and the Robertson County District Attorney.  Breitbart Texas reached out to District Attorney Siegert for comment.  No response has been received at this time.

In his press statement, Siegert said, “Once the investigation is complete, the case will be presented to a Grand Jury. While it is too early in the investigation to comment on any of the facts or evidence stated above, I can say that this was a very tragic occurrence and my prayers go out to the family members of Miss Golden and to the Hearne Community as a whole.”

This is the second officer-involved shooting Officer Stem has been involved in during his two-year career with the Hearne PD, according to the Bryan-College Station Eagle. Stem has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.  The prior shooting occurred on the last day of 2012 when Officer Stem was involved in the fatal shooting of Tederalle Satchell.  According to The Eagle’s report, Stem was responding to another call of a person with a gun.  He was later cleared in the shooting and returned to duty.  At the time, Mayor Ruben Gomez said “We are glad to have Officer Stem back on patrol.  We are also glad that the Grand Jury and the DA’s office saw fit to release him back to our care.”

Stem is a white officer and both of the suspects involved in his shooting incidents were black. Houston Black Panther leader Quanell X is planning a protest in Hearne, Texas tomorrow to respond to these shootings.
