HOUSTON, Texas–State Representative James White (R-Woodville) responded to the growing Texas border crisis by sending a letter to Governor Rick Perry (R-TX) asking for a special session of the state legislature to provide funding for immediate and effective border control. In the letter White cites the “serious humanitarian and border security challenges” being faced in the Texas border region.
“According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS),” White stated in the letter, “at least 80 percent of this spike in border crossings involves people from Central America, to include individuals with a link to international terrorist organizations.” Breitbart Texas has learned this information was obtained in a meeting with Texas DPS Director, Colonel Steve McCraw attended by at least six state representatives. Several of the reps also met with Air Force Major General John Nichols, Adjutant General of the Texas Military Forces who confirmed these numbers.
“The people of Southeast Texas are supportive of Attorney General Greg Abbott’s recent request to the national government for assistance to accomplish the task that the Constitution has mandated through four centuries,” White explained. “Although you and other Texas leaders have consistently made similar appeals to Washington, D.C., our federal government has not been responsive, indicating that the President, Congress, and the national courts either lack the political will to secure our borders and ports of entry or they just blatantly disrespect our Constitution and the rule of law.”
“However, as elected state officials, we have an inherent responsibility to ensure safe communities,” he continued. “Our state law enforcement officials have estimated that an additional $1.3 million per week, over and beyond existing appropriations and without the expectation of national government action, will provide the resources to substantially abate the lawlessness and humanitarian crisis on the border.”
“I am requesting that we provide these resources to DPS immediately, and if it requires legislative action, I urge you to call a special session for this specific purpose,” White concluded.
In an interview with Breitbart Texas, White said he sent the letter to Governor Perry despite his belief “that our Texas Constitution provides the Governor, Lt Governor and Speaker the means to deal with this issue right now.”
Breitbart Texas spoke with another legislative source on the condition of anonymity who claims that Governor Perry has not responded to calls from several state representatives for a special session to work on this issue of state and national security.
