Five Illegal Aliens Saved from Death in Remote South Texas

DALLAS, Texas–A Brooks County Volunteer Deputy saved the lives of five illegal immigrants who were found dangerously dehydrated in the heat of the South Texas summer near Falfurrias, Texas, approximately 80 miles north of the Mexican border. The five victims were famished when they were discovered.

Breitbart Texas reported on June 27 about the recovery of four migrants who were found dead in these same fields. Twelve bodies have been found already this month in the desert-like ranch lands near the town of Falfurrias.

The Donna Independent School District acting police chief, Daniel Walden, is one of the volunteer deputies who is giving his off-duty time to the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office because of the lack of available manpower due to budget cuts. The budget cuts are caused by the county’s extra expense of having to bear the cost of burial for the migrants found in ranchers’ fields.

During his volunteer shift today he came across the five victims in need of assistance. Three were found off Farm to Market Road 755, one off Highway 281 and the fifth was found on Farm to Market Road 3066. They were from Guatemala, Mexico and Nicaragua.

In addition to being a certified peace officer, Walden has also been an emergency medical technician for decades and has twelve years of EMS experience before becoming a police officer.

“I am a medic,” Walden said, “which comes in helpful when we find people like this. I carry extra water and snacks to help get these people back on their feet before they can be turned over to Border Patrol Agents.”

Breitbart Texas reported on June 25 about the organization of law enforcement professionals who are volunteering their time to help the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office which has become overwhelmed by the numbers of illegal immigrants who are dropped off in their county to sneak by border patrol checkpoints. Many, like the four found earlier this week, are found dead after being left behind by their smugglers.

Chief Walden is the founder of the volunteer organization, Border Brotherhood of Texas. He set up the group to recruit and manage the volunteer police officers who travel up to 80 miles to come volunteer to supplement the efforts of the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office. Before today, Walden had worked three seventeen-hour shifts this week. While on duty they take any calls dispatched by the sheriff’s office.
