AUSTIN, Texas — Devender Singh, a 62 year old Indian national who lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has pled guilty to one count of abusive sexual contact in a Newark, New Jersey federal court, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Breitbart Texas previously reported on this case back when it happened in March of this year. Singh was on a United Airlines flight from Houston to Newark and seated next to a woman who fell asleep after the flight took off. She awoke later during the flight to find that Singh was kissing her face, had his hand under her shirt, and was touching his exposed penis. She pushed Singh away and went to the back of the plane where she told a member of the flight crew what had happened. Police were waiting in Newark when the plane landed and Singh was arrested.
All sexual abuse cases that occur on domestic flights in the United States are within the exclusive jurisdiction of the federal government. Jamari Buxton of the U.S. Attorney’s Office General Crimes Unit in Newark represented the government in this case. Special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Aaron T. Ford, and the Port Authority Police Department, under the direction of Superintendent Michael A. Fedorko, assisted with the investigation.
The case is before U.S. District Judge Stanley R. Chesler and sentencing is scheduled for October 23, 2014. Singh’s conviction carries a potential penalty of a maximum of two years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
