Drug Smugglers Hide $1.2 Million in Drugs in Load of Chiles

MCALLEN, Texas — Federal authorities made a spicy bust after finding more than $1.2 million in marijuana hidden in a load of hot peppers.

The seizure took place late last week when officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sent a 2003 Kenworth single cab tractor trailer carrying a load of peppers to a secondary inspection area, according to information released by CBP to Breitbart Texas.

During a closer inspection of the load, CBP officers found 205 bundles of marijuana that had been packaged along with the boxes of peppers. The bundles had a total weight of 1,296.3 pounds of marijuana. CBP officers seized the load and the trailers while agents with Homeland Security Investigations took over the case. CBP information shows that the drugs have an estimated value of $1,296,300. Court records show that the driver in the case has not been charged in connection with the case.
