Michelle Obama Radio Ad for Davis Implies Incorrect Bio Info

AUSTIN, Texas — State Senator Wendy Davis has a new radio ad recorded by First Lady Michelle Obama in support of her campaign for Texas Governor, and the script of the ad comes close to suggesting previous misrepresentations Davis was caught making about her life story.

The one-minute ad features Obama touting how Davis has made education “a top priority because she wants to give all our kids a chance to build a better life for themselves and for their families,” and describes her as someone who “knows something about the American Dream.”She was the daughter of a single mother and by age 19 she was a mother herself. But Wendy worked hard. She went on to college and Harvard Law School,” Obama says. “So, Wendy Davis knows the power of education.”

Davis had originally touted her life story as the “rags-to-riches” story of a single teenage mother living in a trailer park who made it to Harvard Law School and a successful career as an attorney and politician. The truth, however, was not quite as she had portrayed it. Davis admitted to the Dallas Morning News that she had not actually been divorced until she was 21 and lived only a few months in the trailer park before moving to an apartment with her daughter. Other less-than-flattering details that emerged about Davis’ bio included how her second husband paid her way through law school and she gave him divorce papers the day after the last payment was made on her student loans, she had left her two young daughters behind in Texas while she was at Harvard, her husband had accused her of adultery and alcohol/substance abuse in court filings, among other issues.

Obama’s ad for Davis does not cross the line and actually repeat the lies that Davis herself told about her life story, but the implication is there, and she has shown past unwillingness to let go of this false narrative. As Breitbart News has previously reported, Davis’ campaign clung to the original, inaccurate version of her life story more than a month after it was debunked, and when the original Dallas Morning News article came out, Davis’ campaign attacked the writer, accusing him of somehow being an agent or in the tank for the Abbott campaign. Now, after Davis’ poor performance in her debates with Abbott — including moments that were described as “meltdowns” as she tangled with the moderators — she is left desperate for anything that can turn around her floundering campaign in the final month.
