Houston Ebola Scare – Hazmat Responds to Harris County Jail

HOUSTON, Texas — Hazmat teams responded to the Harris County Jail Friday morning after an inmate presented with symptoms that could be considered Ebola-like. Officials said the inmate answered positively to some of the questions used in the screening process.

Medical officials told KPRC NBC2 in Houston they do not believe the patient has Ebola but they are taking precautionary measures just in case.

The Harris County Jail screens approximately 300 patients per day for illness and mental health issues. They have implemented extra screening processes since the Ebola outbreak began in Dallas a few weeks ago.

The inmate has been transferred to a local hospital according to a report on KHOU CBS11. He was transferred by private ambulance as a precautionary measure to be evaluated further.
