Texas Border Mom Tied to Infant’s Thanksgiving Homicide, Say Authorities

MCALLEN, Texas – A Texas border woman was arrested on Thanksgiving in connection with the homicide of her two-year-old son.

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 23-year-old Karen Lucio on the charge of injury to a child, said sheriff’s spokesman JP Rodriguez. Lucio could be facing additional charges and has not yet been formally arraigned.

The case began on Thanksgiving day morning when sheriff’s deputies were called to a local hospital in Weslaco, Texas for a 2-year-old boy that had died under suspicious circumstances. Sheriff’s investigators noticed that the child had multiple injuries that were visible and arrested Lucio while they continue the investigation.

A local justice of the peace went to the hospital to legally pronounce the child dead and ordered an autopsy.

Authorities are expecting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death which could be the deciding factor if Lucio faces capital murder of murder charges.
