Former KKK Grand Dragon to be Tried for Capital Murder in Kansas

A Kansas judge ruled that a former grand dragon of the Ku Klux Klan will stand trial for capital murder in the alleged killings of three people. The victims were shot in the parking lot of a Jewish community center and assisted-living facility nearly one-year ago. The former KKK grand dragon was convinced he was dying at the time and wanted “to make damned sure I killed some Jews or attacked the Jews before I died,” according to a statement he made to the Kansas City Star.

Johnson County District Court Judge Thomas Kelly Ryan ruled on Tuesday that there is enough evidence to try Glenn Miller, a.k.a. Frazier Glenn Cross, Jr., in the deaths of Dr. William Corporon, 69, and his grandson Reat Underwood, 14 at the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park, Kansas, according to an article in JTA, the Global Jewish New Source. Miller is also accused of killing Terri LaMano in the parking lot of Village Shalom, a Jewish assisted-living complex located nearby. Despite Miller’s stated intentions, none of the victims of these crimes were Jewish.

Miller also faces charges of three counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of aggravated assault and one count of criminal discharge of a weapon at a structure. State prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty in the capital murder case.

The Kansas City Star published an interview with the accused killer in November, 2014. He told the Star he was admitted to the emergency room in March, 2014 because he was unable to breath. He said he believed he was going to die and became determined to kill or attack some Jewish people. He told the reporter he conducted reconnaissance missions to both of the locations in the days leading up to the shooting rampage which occurred on April 13, 2014. He said he returned to the two sites “for the specific purpose of killing Jews.”

He said his only regret from the incident was “the young white boy. I regret that.”

He took solace in what he believe was his accomplishment. “Because of what I did, Jews feel less secure,” he said. “Every Jew in the world knows my name now and what I did. As for these … white people who are accomplices of the Jews, who attend their meetings and contribute to their fundraising efforts and who empower the Jews, they are my enemy too. A lot of white people who associate with Jews, go to Jewish events and support them know that they’re not safe either, thanks to me.”

Mark Levin, founding rabbi of Congregation Beth Torah in Overland Park, told the Star that Miller’s actions had the opposite effect on the community. “The fact that he brought tragedy to a number of lives brought our community together,” Levin said.

Breitbart’s Joel Pollak reported on the shootings shortly after they occurred. He reported that the man, later discovered to be Miller, shouted “Heil Hitler!” as he was led away by police.

Miller had a long history with law enforcement and spent three years in prison for plotting the assassination of Morris Dees, founder of the Southern Poverty Law Center, according to the JTA article.

His KKK activities go back to 1960s when Miller was wanted by U.S. Marshals in connection with the 1963 murder of four girls, according to an ABC News article. He was also the founder of the Carolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan and the paramilitary White Patriot Party in North Carolina.

Frazier Glenn Miller is scheduled to be arraigned on March 27.
