Cartel Violence Hits Mexico City

As the Mexican government continues to downplay cartel violence, a group of cartel gunmen stormed a federal police station in Mexico City in an effort to rescue the brother of a jailed capo. In that same day Mexican authorities found 11 bags filled with human remains in a nearby train station.

While rescue attempts and fierce shootouts are common along the border with the U.S., Mexico City and many of the other financial hubs in that country had been spared from cartel violence.

The brazen attack took place in this past weekend in Mexico City where the shootout left two police officers injured and once gunman dead following a lengthy shootouts and a high speed pursuit along several city streets.

According to information released to Breitbart Texas by the Mexican government, the target of the operation was Carlos Esquivel Orozco, a 44-year-old man who had been arrested on Saturday after police officers found an assault rifle in his car.

Esquivel is the brother of Amador Esquivel Orozco, one of the leaders of Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion who is currently in a maximum security prison in Mexico City.

On the same day of the shootout, Mexican authorities made a gruesome find when they recovered 11 bags filled with human remains in a rail yard in Mexico’s city northern area known as Azcapotzalco.

Mexican authorities have released minimal information on the case, however Mexico City’s Mayor was quick to get to the media outlets there and through a televised news conference clarify that the remains in the 11 bags come from the bodies of 2 men only.

Mancera was trying to snuff out the rumbling about cartel activity in his city despite the brazen rescue attempt over Esquivel Orozco. According to the politician, cartel presence in Mexico City is from individuals travelling through it but it is not tied to actual cartel members setting up operation in his city.

Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion is the same drug cartel that as previously reported by Breitbart Texas, has shot down helicopters killing several soldiers and ambushed police convoys shaming the Mexican government for their inability to stop the violence. The most recent figures released by the Mexican military point to nine Special Forces soldiers dying in the helicopter which was shot down with a rocket propelled grenade.

Breitbart Texas had previously spoken with George Grayson, a professor at the College of William & Mary who has written multiple books about Mexican drug cartels. According to Grayson, while cartel violence raged on along the border, Mexico’s political and financial elite had been spared from it, making it just another election issue.

The author had stated that until the violence knocked at the door of Mexico’s power players; that is when they would put pressure on the government to put a stop to it.

The recent rash of violence by the CJNG appears to be doing exactly that with their recent shootout in Mexico City and the fierce fighting around Jalisco’s capital Guadalajara which is one of Mexico’s main financial and commerce hubs.
