President Barack Obama told press corps in the Oval Office this morning that he spoke with Texas Governor Greg Abbott and assured him that Texas can count on the federal government to help Texans. The Lone Star State has sustained historic damage from catastrophic floodwaters that hit the state over the Memorial Day holiday and weekend.

Governor Abbott’s office confirmed to Breitbart Texas that the phone call occurred.

The Governor has declared 37 counties in the state a disaster, as reported by Breitbart Texas.

President Obama said he expressed his condolences to Governor Abbott for the terrible flooding that has taken place and said his thoughts and prayers were with members of the community who have been devastated by these historic floods.

The President said he assured the Texas Governor that “he can count on the help of the federal government. He told the press, “We have FEMA personnel already on the ground. They are coordinating with Texas Emergency Management authorities and I will anticipate that there will be some significant requests made to Washington.”

The President added, “we will expedite those requests to make sure that both search and rescue operations, where necessary, but also recovery operations occur, as efficiently and as quickly as possible.”
