MATAMOROS, Tamaulipas — A group of cartel gunmen attacked two Mexican Federal Police officers killing one of them during an early morning ambush not far from this border city.

The attack took place shortly after 2 a.m. when Officer Cesar Rolando Garza Zamarron and his partner Marco Antonio Vidal Cabanas were conducting a routine patrol along the 244 kilometer marker in the highway that connects this border city with Ciudad Victoria, information provided by government officials to Breitbart Texas revealed.

The police officers spotted an SUV with six gunmen who began firing at them.  The officers fired back and engaged in evasive maneuvers. As the officers tried to evade, a dark Ford Excursion hit them from behind running the police patrol off the road.
