Thieves Steal Eight Guns from Texas Sheriff’s Truck

Thieves broke into a Texas sheriff’s official vehicle this weekend, stealing eight guns and a law enforcement jacket. The break-in occurred on Saturday while the sheriff lunched in a Houston-area restaurant.

Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith reported the theft of four county owned guns and four personal guns on Saturday, the Houston Chronicle noted. The sheriff said that thieves also took a uniform jacket.

In an official statement, Smith said the burglars broke into his county-owned pickup truck while he dined at a restaurant in Katy, just west of Houston and just outside of Waller County. Officials from the unidentified restaurant said their security cameras did not work at the time of the break-in.

No mention was made as to the types of guns that were stolen from the sheriff’s truck. The statement said the details about the eight guns have been entered into state and federal crime databases.

The Waller County sheriff made national news earlier this year when a young woman, Sandra Bland, committed suicide in the jail he operated. The woman spent three days in the jail after being arrested by a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper for resisting arrest and assaulting an officer. The suicide occurred after no one in her circle of family and friends helped her make bond.

The suicide of Sandra Bland sparked a series of demonstrations including an armed protest by a large group from the Houston New Black Panther Party, as reported by Breitbart Texas. During that protest, the armed protesters shouted to police, “We will start creeping up on you in the darkness.”

Just weeks later, an armed black man did exactly that, just thirty miles away from the scene of this protest. Shannon Miles now stands accuses of sneaking up behind Harris County Deputy Sheriff Darren Goforth in the darkness and murdering him by shooting him in the head and back.
