HOUSTON, Texas – Members of the Harris County Sheriff Department’s Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) discovered that a homeless man allegedly carrying a fake ID card was actually wanted for two charges of indecency with a child and another felony charge of theft.

Robert B. Jones, 65, was arrested by HOT team deputies in northwest Houston on Monday. The deputies encountered the homeless man who requested that he be taken to a local homeless shelter. He told the deputies his name was Samuel Johnson, according to a statement from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office obtained by Breitbart Texas.

Noticing the ID card presented by the homeless man was not a state issued card, the deputies ran the name and date of birth through a database at the National Crime Information Center. The information provided by the man did not match any records at the center.

At that point, the deputies requested assistance from another deputy who was equipped with a mobile AFIS identification system. That deputy scanned a thumb print and got a hit in the database. The thumb print identified the homeless man as Robert B. Jones, a wanted man with three outstanding felony warrants. Two of the warrants are for felony indecency with a child and the third is for felony theft of copper.

Jones is accused of “touching the breast of [the victim] with the intent to arouse and gratify the sexual desire of the defendant,” according to the indictment obtained by Breitbart Texas from Harris County District Clerk Chris Daniel. In a second count, Jones is accused of “touching the genitals of [the victim] with the intent to arouse and gratify the sexual desire of the defendant.” The victim was reported to be younger than seventeen years of age. The incidents occurred on or about August 1, 2012.

The indictment on the charge of theft of copper states that on May 4, 2014, Robert Benjamin Jones unlawfully appropriated copper valued at less than $20,000. The victim in that crime is listed as Johnny Wilson. The indictment was returned by the grand jury and recorded on June 12, 2014.

Jones was arrested and taken to the Harris County Inmate Processing Center. His previous bond on the felony charges has been revoked and Jones remains in custody at the Harris County jail.
