Explosive Materials Found in Texas, Apartment Complex Evacuated

Police in Texas discovered explosive materials during the execution of a narcotics search warrant Friday afternoon. A nearby apartment complex in the Galveston County town of La Marque was evacuated after the discovery.

UPDATE: La Marque police said the explosive materials were a “large quantity of fireworks and equipment,” according to KHOU. “The fireworks were in a process of being disassembled and reassembled, suspected to make a device with a more powerful explosion.”  No charges have been filed at this time.

The La Marque Police Department was executing a search warrant when they discovered explosive materials and notified the bomb squad. The Regional Area Bomb Squad was notified and residents of the apartment complex were evacuated, according to MyFoxHouston.com.

Local media outlets are reporting that officials are questioning two men. It has not been revealed if the two men are directly connected to the explosive materials.

La Marque is located in Galveston County about 60 miles southeast of Houston.

While conducting a narcotics search, one of the La Marque police officers discovered the explosive materials.
