Texas Governor Greg Abbott has released his first “Report to the People of Texas.” It highlights what the Governor calls the shared accomplishments and successes of Texas during his first year of office.

The report looks at the Texas economy and expansion of businesses and relocation of those businesses into Texas, education and border security, among other topics.

It also provides an overview of the legislation passed during the 84th legislative session in Texas. In a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas, Abbott says the report shows the legislation “passed to cut taxes, improve Texas’ public and higher education systems, build new roads, secure our border and chart a course that keeps the Lone Star State a beacon of individual liberty and economic opportunity.”

“The promise of the future knows no bounds, and the Lone Star State remains the best place to raise a family, build a business and create a better life,” said Governor Abbott. “The true secret to the robust strength and resilience of the Texas economy is our greatest natural resource: the hardworking people of Texas. It is a privilege to serve the people of this great state, working by your side to ensure the future is bigger and brighter for generations to come.”

As it relates to the Texas economy, Texas is reported to be #1 with over 1.85 million jobs added in the last ten years. Texas was number nine in the top ten states overall. The nation’s CEOs ranked Texas #1 for the best state in the country for business – the eleventh year in a row.

Unemployment is listed at or below the national average at 4.7 percent, and this is for the last 108 consecutive months.

Women-owned businesses are growing two-times faster than all businesses nationwide.

The Texas on-time high school graduation rate is 88.3 percent, surpassing the national average of 82.3%.

The Texas Governor’s “Report to the People of Texas,” also spotlights law enforcement and other first responders in Texas who in the Governor’s words, “help make our state the envy of the nation.”

College degrees and certificates are reported to be up 61 percent since the year 2000, doubling enrollment of African-Americans and Hispanics.

Abbott said, “The Texas model is proof that limited government encourages unlimited opportunity. Less government, low taxes, smarter regulations and right-to-work laws – these are the pro-growth economic policies that help free enterprise flourish in Texas.”

Abbott vows that he will continue to take a strong stand against those who threaten the safety of Texans, including the drug cartels, transnational gangs and those who engage in human smuggling and trafficking operations.

He also promises to continue to take a strong stand “against unknown threats from those who seek to wage war against our freedoms and our liberty.”
